Our Purpose
From the very beginning the founders of this credit union had an innate sense about the power of having a purpose in business, a purpose beyond making money. It began when 20 people came together to provide financial opportunity to their community of fellow workers. The ability to obtain a simple financial product or service was something they could not take for granted. More than half a century has passed since December 1948 when this visionary group built our company’s foundation on guiding principles. These principles established our culture. Throughout the years, this foundation has remained and these basic values have led us on a path of growth and success.
Today, Community First Credit Union Limited offers a full range of financial products and services for personal and business banking. Community First Credit Union (CFCU) has more than 20 years experience in commercial financing, with breadth and depth of experience in financing small, medium, and large complex projects in many different industries.
Community Investment
We are a strong supporter of community initiatives that will serve the community at large. For close to 60 years, Community First has conducted business in accordance with the guiding principles that were established by our credit union’s founders. One of these guiding principles is called “Community Ties”, and involves supporting and promoting long-term sustainable initiatives for the people and the communities we serve. Our focus has included such areas as healthcare, education, youth, culture and the general well being of the local community by providing proactive leadership, volunteerism, and resources.
Additionally, Community First has been designated as an Imagine Caring Company. This designation is awarded by the Canadian Centre of Philanthropy, nationally recognizing organizations that have contributed at least 1% of their pre-tax profits to charity. Community First is proud of the fact that we have not only met but exceed this amount annually.
